The first event of the Marty Brown Memorial series for this year, the 2020 Marty Brown Memorial Open Round #1, was held just over one week ago on June 27th. Twenty-nine participants (youth, men and women) attended and enjoyed a day of rifle marksmanship instruction, skills contests (congratulations to Becky Williams on winning the skills contest), a silent auction, a history presentation (from memory!) by 9-year-old Savannah Alcorn, and a bunch of door prizes (lucky participants walked away with a Pioneer Arms AK-47 rifle, a Timber Creek AR-15 build kit and lots of other gifts).
Revere’s Riders is proud to announce that $4,985 was raised at this event and will be donated to Ovar’coming Together to assist their programs to support women diagnosed with ovarian cancer. Ovarian cancer is the 5th leading cause of cancer-related death among women. Its symptoms are often vague and easily dismissed, leading to diagnosis when the cancer is at an advanced stage and difficult to successfully treat. Education and early diagnosis are key for survival.
In 2019, the inaugural year for the Marty Brown Memorial events, Revere’s Riders raised nearly $12,000 in total for Ovar’coming Together. Our goal for the 2020 Marty Brown Memorial events is $20,000 in total donations. We are highly encouraged by the nearly $5,000 we raised with our first event, but will need to sell out the remaining 2020 Marty Brown Memorial events and raise significant funds via skills contests, silent auctions, etc. as well in order to meet our ambitious goal.
Please consider attending one of the upcoming 2020 Marty Brown Memorial events to help us attain our fundraising goal while enjoying a day at the range learning marksmanship skills and hearing some Revolutionary War history:
